Ellen Small Billard first traveled overseas at age 15 when her father insisted upon sending her on a school trip to Germany. And that’s when it happened: high atop Switzerland’s Mt. Pilatus, she was bitten by the travel bug and has never quite recovered. Since then, she has traveled to more than 15 countries on four continents. Highlights of her adventures include rafting along the Nile River in Uganda, riding camels around Egypt’s Pyramids at Giza, sea kayaking in the Adriatic Sea, watching the sunset on the island of Santorini, exploring Machu Picchu, and cycling New England’s stunning coastline. She continues to hold her father responsible for all the money she has spent on travel since that first trip to Europe.

That’s in New York State? I should have paid better attention on my roadtrip through New England last year. We drove quite a bit through NY state on the way back to Toronto, but didn’t stop in any parks. This looks awesome.

Sure is! We’ve traveled all throughout New England and a lot of New York state, and we both agree that the Adirondacks (particularly the High Peaks region, which is in the northern part of the park) is one of the most beautiful places in this area of the country. It’s beautiful and it’s remote. Parts of it are not overly accessible, though, so if you were driving from Toronto, you might not have been very close to the area if you stayed on major highways. If you ever make it back there, head to the town of Lake Placid. It’s worth the drive!

Gorgeous photos - I love the fog! I have a friend living near Lake Placid and I’m really going to have to head down there for a visit sometime. Love the new look for your blog!
