The Caribbean region is made up of more than 700 islands, reefs and cays. These islands form an arc, reaching between the southernmost tip of Florida down to the top of South America, with the Greater Antilles to the north and the Lesser Antilles to the south and east. These hundreds of tropical Caribbean Islands are rightly regarded by many as paradise. As befits these little pieces of heaven-on-earth, there is a wealth to enjoy, see and do.
Beaches, boats and bikinis are typical features of a Caribbean holiday, and you’ll also find many fine examples of outstanding natural beauty, coconut-tree-clad mountains, verdant valleys of sugar cane and banana trees, and bays and turquoise lagoons, which will take your breath away. We have compiled a list of our favourite beautiful beaches for your dream Caribbean holiday: from deserted and remote stretches of sand through to busier more family-friendly resort beaches that accommodate such holiday companies as Club Med holidays. Here are five Caribbean beaches I’d love to visit right now:
Buccaneers Creek
To be found in the south-eastern corner of Martinique, one of the Lesser Antilles islands in the Eastern Caribbean Sea is the most beautiful beach on the island. Home to Club Med holidays, the resort has retained an authentic Creole spirit. Enjoy a taste of everything here, from water sports to the Club Med spa.
Shoal Bay, Anguilla
Once a secret hideaway, Anguilla has fast become one of the Caribbean hot spots for A-list celebs and honeymooners alike. Filled with beautiful beaches, high-end resorts and possessed of a laid-back charm, Anguilla’s popularity is certainly well deserved. There are 33 beaches on the island, and the best part is that they are all open to the public. Shoal Bay is among the most popular, with two miles of pinkish-white, fine sand, at which stunningly clear waters lap. It is easy to see why this beach has become not only the most popular on the island, but seen by many as one of the most beautiful in the world.
Trunk Bay, St Johns, Virgin Islands
The sands and offshore coral reefs on this supremely beautiful beach are among St. John’s most breathtaking and well-preserved attractions. Trunk Bay’s clear, warm waters and silky coral sands draw tourists in drove, and its well-maintained facilities include snorkel equipment rentals and showers. Visitors can bask in the tropical sun, snorkel the 225-yard-long Underwater Trail of reefs, or try their hand at underwater photography – the crystal-clear water and variety of colourful sea life promise spectacular photo opportunities.
Eagle Beach, Aruba
With endless miles of clean shores, tranquil aquamarine waters and picture-perfect weather year-round, Aruba sees its fair share of tourism. Eagle Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island with its wide swath of powdery sand and gentle surf, perfect for swimming in. The beach is a bit quieter than some of its neighbours, but still free to the public, like all of Aruba’s beaches.
Pink Beach, Barbuda
Step onto the silky sand at Pink Beach, Barbuda’s centrepiece beach. Nearly eight miles of deserted oceanfront stretches from Spanish Point to Palmetto Point and the snorkelling is among the best in the world. The champagne colour of the sand has a rosy glow, thanks to the crushed coral. One of the most amazing things is the fact that it’s possible to stroll along the beach for miles without seeing another person.
The Caribbean arguably has the best beaches in the world, so whether you choose one of our five top picks or any of the other hundreds of beautiful beaches there, you’re sure to come across some spectacular and breathtaking spots to relax and soak up some sun. Happy beach combing!
