Experience the beauty of Bangkok

The best way to get to know Bangkok is by taking a boat trip along the Chao Phraya River. Tourist boats can be caught from pier 13, which is located just around the corner from Khao San Road. A number of interesting temples and other landmarks can be seen along the riverbanks as the boat slowly glides along the river, and tourist boats come complete with a guide who will point out attractions as they pass and provide a little history and other information. Many of the city’s famous attractions are located close to one of the piers, and visitors can hop off the boat any time they choose to explore attractions such as the Grand Palace, Wat Po, Wat Arun and Chinatown.

The last stop along the Chao Phraya River connects with the Skytrain, which takes visitors into the very heart of Bangkok. The Skytrain’s two main lines take passengers high above the street level, providing an interesting alternative view of the city. The two lines cross at the Siam station, which is located conveniently close to a large number of shopping centres such as MBK, Siam Paragon, Central World and the Discovery Centre.

Don’t forget the markets

People who are visiting Bangkok at the weekend can also take the Skytrain to Chatuchak Market. This vibrant weekend market boasts an enormous collection of stalls that sell everything from souvenirs to clothing and antiques and is one of the best places in the whole city to browse for bargains. A couple of picturesque parks can also be found close to Chatuchak Market, and these are great places to relax and unwind for a while. Or, if your trip allows, you can explore one of these other fabulous markets in Thailand.

And the night life?
